I Want To Eat You, Earthling and Other Recent Cookbook Outrages

From the AP: SYDNEY, Australia  The publisher Penguin Group of Australia has come under fire recently for a curious typo that may be subliminal racism, a mistake, or a combination of the two.  In a recipe that called for "ground black pepper," the text instead read "ground  black people."  Many in the anti-cookbook community are wondering aloud: is it really possible to switch and substitute that many letters?  What is going on here?

Well, new shocking developments in the case surfaced today, as two other cookbooks published by Penguin have come under fire.  In the "South of the Border Cookbook 2010." another typo was discovered, seemingly calling for "severed Mexican’s toes" in an omelet recipe.  Hanz Shulmann, an editor at Penguin, explains that it is just another unfortunate error.  "It is supposed to read ‘some par-boiled potatoes,’ and I think that most people who are not amateur conspiracy theorists will understand how this could happen to anyone…" he tells Unfettered Letters.  We asked, "what about the Vienna Sausage Recipe that calls for ‘the burnt souls and limbs of Jewish children?’  How does he explain that?  And how do you burn a soul, anyway?  Can you lightly toast a soul?"  Shulmann responds, "Oh, no – that one’s completely on purpose,  And actually it’s a very tasty dish.  You should absolutely try it.  It’s one of the best recipes in our "How to Cook A Jew" series coming out this October.
