The Center for A Stagnant America, a researh group sponsored in part by The Daughters of the American Revolution, just came out with a new study citing the "disturbingly high quotient of peace, love, and rainbows featured in the drawings and writings of children under 8 years old." The study, entitled Where Do We Go From Here?: The Disturbingly High Quotient of Peace, Love, and Rainbows Featured In The Drawings And Writings Of Children Under 8 Years Old, explores how young children producing literary and art works in kindergarten through the fourth grade heavily depend on symbols usually associated with affection, safety, openness, and images from an unspoiled, highly over-idealized natural world. "Usually we like to see more guns, sharpened sticks, and odes to Richard Nixon at this point in a child’s development," says Mortimer Sneed, the center’s director. When asked about Montessori schools, Sneed begins to cut himself with a paper clip. Quickly changing the subject, we ask him about Star Wars type stuff. "Spaceships we can go either way on, they’re kind of neutral."
